Depeche Mode Speaking of the Cassette 'tee' where would we be without diving into it a little more of it's inception. And who better to describe it in words and photos then Richard Blade Official Page who took over the DM page and was broadcasting live that night:

"I was hosting the evening at the Wherehouse records store at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles that attracted over 17,000 fans and turned into a near riot! Fortunately even though it quickly got out of hand and LAPD posted a tactical alert, closed down the streets, brought in two hundred extra police in full riot gear plus 50 mounted officers and three airborne units, no one was hurt because, in a word, Depeche Mode fans are cool! After the event I was asked to produce a special album release with Flood to be distributed by Sire/Mute."

The rest is history. Are you in LA? We're nearby the Beverly Center a little longer. Come find us for the chance to purchase exclusive merchandise including the Cassette tee and follow Spirit Truck Los Angeles for clues on where we'll be next. We also have giveaways including tickets for tomorrow nights show!

Depeche Mode It was March 20th, 1990. Back to the scene of the legendary Wherehouse Records signing. An iconic moment in the band's history here in Los Angeles.

Are you in LA? We have an exclusive 'Cassette' tee to mark the band's return to the city. Keep an eye on Spirit Truck Los Angeles for giveaways and how to get your hands on it.

Depeche Mode The Global Spirit Tour & Truck:
Earlier today we were told that something special was waiting for us at the Spirit Truck Los Angeles. Not sure if you've seen it, but they've been driving around LA selling merch and doing giveaways for devotees. Once you see it it's hard to miss.

We arrived and were shocked by being told that we actually had front row tickets to tonight's show! It's something I'll never forget. 2009 was Depeche Mode's 1st time performing at Hollywood Bowl. To come back in 2017 and break records, and make it 4 nights is an exciting thing to be part of. Sharing it with friends and my sister means a lot. We also all have our friend Missy in our hearts, especially during tour time. Here's a photo from earlier and the first night's performance. If you see us crying during the show, you'll know why. Thank you Depeche Mode for making me the Happiest Girl even in the worst of times.

Depeche Mode Do you have a song or album that speaks to you? Which one made you stop to take notice of Depeche Mode?

Music for the Masses and Strangelove caught my attention like nothing else. My sister and I played 101 on VHS like KROQ played People are People, heavy rotation! I hated it for a while. My views have since changed. I wish Martin's would so they could sing it live again. I'm sure we all have a running wish list.

For the first Hollywood Bowl show the energy of the band and crowd was awesome and I look forward to the other 3 shows finishing up my mini tour of Global Spirit!

Depeche Mode My name is Melissa. LA has a Strangelove with Depeche Mode. I must come clean. I have post concert euphoria after night 1 at Hollywood Bowl. I Just Can't Get Enough so will be back the 3 other shows. It was A Question Of Time before I shared my journey. I found the Meaning Of Love when I attended my 1st concert during the Singles Tour. I never thought a moment at a concert would change my life. More on that later. Thanks to social media I have befriended fans near and far. That is Love, In Itself.

Depeche Mode The Highline Sessions:
It has become a tradition to record and film a handful of songs in a live setting during the last 2 days of the recording sessions. Want to know what it's like on set with the guys? Leave your questions below and I'll answer as many as I can.

The scenes that Timothy Saccenti created were out of this world and beautifully captured by Ivan Abel. I was honored to be picked as musical director/arranger and tasked with coming up with different arrangements than what is on the album for 5 songs that we chose collectively.

The challenge was to create different parts for each player, choose what synthesizer to use and program a sound that fits the song. To top it off, we decided to go all old school and not use any computers so my drum machine was the heartbeat of the whole production. To get it to sync with Martins vast modular synthesizer collection was quite the challenge, especially with long cables adding resistance to the signal. But I feel it was truly worth the effort to get an organic performance out of the songs. The highlight was definitely David Bowie’s “Heroes” which really went under our skin. It was the very last thing we did on the “spirit” sessions and when that last chord was hit right after Dave sang “just for one day”, we all were touched and had to swallow a few times. Thankfully Tim Saccenti had mercy and waited a few moments until switching on the lights, haha.

Depeche Mode Ever wanted to know what it's like being in studio with the band? Leave your questions below and I'll try to answer as many as I can.

In the Studio with DM:
I met Dave over ten years ago when he was looking for someone to help with recording demos of song ideas. After that I helped with vocals on his brilliant electronic solo album “Hourglass” and we played a few promo shows in NYC together. We really got along and he recommended me to perform in a Depeche Mode live session video for “Sounds of The Universe” and it just grew from there. Rehearsing with Martin and Fletch was fun and the sheer amount of synthesizers was overwhelming. At that point I also had a few but what they had stacked up in that studio was truly breathtaking.

From then on, I was invited along whenever it was time to make a Depeche record. I learned a lot from their adventurous recording workflow. To hit record, then tweak, twist and turn the synthesizer knobs as the song plays back numerous times without ever stopping and then, edit the rather vast amount of audio data later on, that was quite an unusual way of working to me. It was such a playful and refreshing approach to recording and I think it really shows if you listen closely. An instrument recorded in that manner has life and retains a little chaos which is such a relief from the cut and paste music that is popular on radio these days.

Depeche Mode "My name is Kurt Uenala aka Null + Void. I’m from Switzerland but I live in NYC. Music is my calling, my profession (still doesn't feel like a job) and the thing that will undoubtedly drive me bonkers someday.
I was lucky enough to have been able to spend most of my time on my own music but composing, synthesizing and collaborating with a team of wonderful people called Depeche Mode is a dream come true. Ever since my older brother played me "Construction Time Again" the cold industrial sounds touched my robot heart and I begged for a synthesizer but got rented a cello instead.

I will be giving you a glimpse of what's going on behind the tightly locked studio doors and I am standing by for any questions you may have, so please do leave your comments below the postings.

Depeche Mode DM at The Hollywood Bowl:
The Hollywood Bowl is an epic venue. You get to sit under the stars watching your favorite musicians surrounded by the ones you love..It doesn’t get any better than that.

As you can see, my best friend and I had a blast being Depeche Mode mega-fans in LA for 3 decades. Unfortunately, I lost my DM soul sister last year to cancer.

Saturday night will be the first show in 30 years that I will be seeing without my Tanaz. I know it will be emotional, beautiful, bring back cherished memories, and will be inevitably amazing.

I decided to submit this pic of Tanaz wearing her favorite DM t-shirt. When I took it out of my photo album, I noticed the note on the back she had written me in high school, that I hadn't seen in 30 years. She writes, "I'll love you for always and no, not even death will do us part because even then you'll not be forgotten.”

Depeche Mode I know all of their shows are memorable and awesome, but do you have a favorite DM show or venue?

One of the best shows we ever attended was the World Violation tour at Dodger Stadium in 1990. Imagine how lucky and elated I felt when my cousin told me that a DM crew member had come in to his car rental shop in Hollywood to rent a car and had offered him his all-access Crew pass. My cousin knew what a die hard fan I was and despite being a fan himself, gave me his passes. He made our 17 year old groupie dreams come true! Here are some pics of that night and the coveted Crew pass! Please don't judge the hair...it was 1990!

Depeche Mode What are your earliest LA memories of the band?

Here are some pics of us at the Wherehouse record signing event/riot in 1990. We skipped school and almost got trampled by the mob, but we made it in, met the band and got a few good pics.

My best friend, Tanaz, and I bonded over our love for Depeche Mode when we met in the 5th grade. We spent the next 32 years going to every Depeche Mode concert in LA, camping out for tickets, getting stuck in a riot, going to DM conventions, sneaking into their movie premiere in Century City, winning record release party tickets, going back stage at Dodgers Stadium, randomly bumping into Dave at Chin Chin and Matsuhisa (local restaurants), stalking the band outside of the Sunset Marquis Hotel when they stayed there, and doing everything humanly possible to connect with the band.

Depeche Mode Have you had someone special that you paid tribute to? How?

The network of friends we've made through our mutual love of DM is unmatched by fans of any other band. "We are soul sisters & soul brothers." February of this year, fellow Modie & dear friend Missy passed away. She loved Depeche Mode. I’m sure most of you must have seen her at a show because she would travel across the US to see them! She took amazing photographs & videos. It's fitting that the tour is called "Global Spirit" since Missy will be with us in spirit at every show.

For the Global Spirit Tour, several friends have made their own tribute for Missy. A favorite thing she'd do was take shoe selfies, so we take at least one at each show for her. Others have made bracelets and lanyards laminates so she's with us in spirit.
